Create an OpenAI API key
Visit platform.openai.com, navigate to API Keys, and click Create new secret key. Name it (e.g. "Zapier") and copy it — you'll need it in the next step. Make sure your OpenAI account has billing enabled and credits available.

Find OpenAI in Zapier
In Zapier, open or create a Zap. Add an action step and search for "OpenAI (GPT-4, DALL-E, Whisper)" in the app search. Select it. Zapier's native OpenAI integration is maintained by the Zapier team and supports GPT-4o, DALL-E, and Whisper actions.

Choose "Send Prompt" action and authenticate
Select the action Send Prompt. When prompted, connect your OpenAI account by pasting your API key. Choose a model — gpt-4o is recommended for quality, gpt-3.5-turbo for speed and lower cost. Configure system instructions if needed.

Map data into the prompt, use the output downstream
In the User Message (prompt) field, reference data from earlier Zap steps — e.g.
